1906- The City of Arlen is established it's city limits an city departments an fire department. Arlen builds the first fire house off First street at Washington Avenue in Downtown. With the purchases of helmets, coats an boots for the 10 volunteer firemen. A 1907 American Lafrance was bought, running a 5oo gallon pump an 2oo gallon water tank. On the day of July 5th Arlen fire department is ready for business. 


1909- A 1909 American Lafrance the second pumper engine is put into service. 15o gallon per minute pump with 2oo gallon tank.


1910- Hotel Arlen is built at Fifth Street an Main, standing at 2o stories tall. 


1911 -  First Aerial device a 100 foot tractor-drawn american lafrance was purchased for 21.400 dollars. The purchase of new truck will serve downtown as the skyline grows.


1934- Mr.Nelsons Pharmacy catches fire by a deposed cigarette.

1941 -  New central station was built on the eastside of downtown at Maple an Sixteenth. standing at  2 stories tall an 1 1/2 bays with bunks for firemen to stay the night. Arlen now operating out of two fire house one on the east an westsides.


1945 -  Arlen hires first paid firemen to serve the city, Fire Chief Don Langley, Assistant Chief Billy Vernon along with 4 firemen who worked 24 hours on an 24 hours off, making a total of  6 paid firemen.


1954- Purchase of American Lafrance Liberty pumper/engine. 5oo gallon per minute pump an 3oo gallon water tank. Serving as Engine.No.1. 


1959- First line of duty death, Don 

Langley died while attempting to save a child from a burning house on Eleventh an Baker Street. The mother of the child along with Chief Langley perished in the blaze.


1972- A 8o foot American Lafrance aerial is put into service as Ladder Truck.2 


1974- Four additional firemen are hired as Arlen expands an grows to the population of 9.048 people, still working a 24 hour on an off 24 hours. Making 10 paid firemen an 15 Volunteers.


1980- South Arlen Fire Station is built

At Easton Avenue an Pine oaks drive. One story an two bays. A 1976 Ford Howe with 1ooo gallons per minute pump and 5oo gallon water tank was purchased 


1983- Arlen fire department purchases pagers for all paid and volunteer firemen.


1987- New Engine.3 is put into service. 1987 American Lafrance liberty, 1ooogpm pump an 1ooogallon tank.


1992- As the city expands three more firefighters are hired, including a Investigator and fire Inspector. All personnel on shift rotates to 24 hours on an 48 hours off.  Making total 13 paid career firefighters. 


1998- Central Station number one burns to the ground after a electrical short circuit at Maple an Sixteenth. 


1999- Chet Elderson Central Station was built after losing old number one station. Located at Rockwell Street an Dallas Street, the structure has 3 Bays an stud one story tall. The new location is central point for Arlen and covorage on the north side of town. 


2oo1- AFD starts running first responder on medical runs within the city limit. 


2oo2- Three additional firefighters are hired as old members get promoted to officers. The volunteer/career  department still stands with 16 volunteers. 


2o1o- Three more firefighters are hired as Arlen grows to 27,ooo in population. 


2011- Chief Investigator Ronald Milton retires as Battalion Chief Thomas Anderson gets promoted to Lead Chief Investigator. 


2013- Three positions are added.


2015- Station three opens. Adding three new positions to the department. 


2018- Arlen Fire Department starts providing Advanced Life Support Ambulance transport services. The Heimlich County Emergency Services are still second in Emergency Medical Services for the city. Arlen Fire now sits with ten paramedics certified.Advanced Life Support EMS 7 is staffed 24/7 out of Headquarters. Advanced Life Support EMS 12 is peak demand staffed during business hours. And EMS 4 and EMS 11 are cross manned as BLS ambulances thru the cross fire and volunteer trained fire personnel. 



2018. Career personnel changed shifts from 24 on and 48 off to, 48 hours on and 96 hours off. The fire administration hours and second full time ambulance worked Monday thru Friday 0700 until 1700 hours. 



2019 April 14th. 

0408 hours a Box Alarm was transmitted around 517 South Mcmillion street. First arriving companies Engine 3 and Medic 11 found heavy fire on the first floor. Lieutenant Labeaf, Engineer Derek Jackson I, Pipe men Larry Thompson

Medic Carl Jennings and medic Sally Temple made an aggressive fire attack, searching the first and second floor finding two victims and rescuing them. Both victims was transported to the emergency room for further medical treatment for smoke inhalation.  The fire was investigated and found to be an electrical short of wiring.

Lieutenant Doug Campbell was promoted to Captain-Training officer, 


Engineer Shelby Campbell was promoted to Administrative Lieutenant and Public Information Officer. 


Pipe man Josh Corley was promoted to Driver Engineer.

Assistant Training officer Nolan Wade is promoted to Battalion Chief, Division of Operations. 


Lieutenant Heck Dorlan Jr is promoted to Captain-Assistant Training officer. 


Paramedic Lieutenant Drew Weinerberg is promoted to Battalion Chief, Division of EMS. 


Driver Engineer Lacey Bridges is promoted to Lieutenant 


Pipe man EMT Kendrick Lamar is promoted to Driver Engineer. 


2020 May 20th 

A new ALS Ambulance is out unrivaled. A 2020 Ford Transit is more fuel economy for the recent demand in far inter facility transfers. EMS-Ambulance 12 will be housed at the South Arlen Engine House during day time hours.
